  • Qualification required: Master’s/Bachelors in agriculture /Social Science/ Social Work/Rural Development. Diploma in apiculture from ICAR or any other reputed institutions would be an advantage.
  • Experience required: At least 5-7 years of experience in the development sector preferably from a rural livelihood. Prior experience of working in Bee-keeping /Apiculture is mandatory.
  • Skill and Competencies:
  • Working experience with State Rural Livelihood Mission on a progressive model of bee-keeping will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proven ability to develop and implement operational plans, SOPs, and to monitor and evaluate performance against targets.
  • Strong communication, networking, and partnership-building skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, partners.
  • Experience working in SHG-based enterprises will be an added advantage
  • Proficiency in Project Management, Project planning and Project monitoring skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Canva & Power BI would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills in Hindi and English; ability to speak, read, and write fluently in both the languages is a must.
  • Ability to operate and lead under pressure and in challenging situations; and take quick and firm decisions.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities: The position requires the professional to have hands on experience on bee-keeping and should also have the ability & technical expertise to deal with large scale implementation of Bee-Keeping projects. Key responsibilities include providing technical guidance, developing knowledge products, anchoring the scientific bee-keeping process, conducting experiments & actions pilots and building the capacities of stakeholders associated with the model. 

  • S/he will support in overall project planning which includes developing and finalization of SoPs, guidelines, training modules and other IEC materials on bee-keeping concept & management.
  • S/he will be responsible for designing the learning management system for the project.
  • S/he will be responsible for developing knowledge products, concept notes, proposals and other documents as per the need.
  • S/he will support in organizing consultative workshops and stakeholder’s meetings.
  • S/he will be responsible for critical evaluation of the bee-keeping model and giving the recommendation for the requisite changes in the model.
  • S/he will be responsible for building technical understanding on bee-keeping to project staff, SHG members, community cadre and other stakeholders of the project.
  • S/he will be responsible for developing the pool of master trainers and community cadre for the bee-keeping project.
  • S/he will be responsible for the anchoring the training programs & identifying capacity building gaps and devising strategy to address the same.
  • S/he will be responsible for anchoring the induction process and ensuring on-ground training of SHG bee-keepers.
  • S/he will be responsible for resolving the technical challenges faced by SHG members in day-to-day management of bee-hives.
  • S/he will be responsible for carrying out action pilots, experiments and other required studies and assessment for the project.
  • S/he will support in development and strengthening of Bee-keeping Producer groups by providing the technical inputs to the members.

  • Interact with government officials and other stakeholders at the district and block level for the initiative on Bee-keeping /Apiculture.
  • Should coordinate with the district and block mission staff for organizing exposure visits on Bee-keeping /Apiculture.
  • Anchoring the area selection process & providing migration support
  • Building the capacity of cadre & handholding them in on-ground implementation of project.
  • Establishing market linkages for the procurement of bee-boxes & other essential items
  • Establishing market linkages for the purchase of honey & other products at the best possible rates
  • Providing support in branding, certification & quality control.
  • Providing support in leveraging benefits of government schemes.
  • Submit monthly, quarterly and yearly reports on the progress of the intervention
  • Support in documentation of success stories, case studies, compendium on best practices of Bee-keeping /Apiculture.
  • S/he will keep a track and oversight of the beneficiaries linked to government schemes for financial assistance.
  • S/he will be responsible for providing relevant information to supervisor and M&E team.

 About the Project:

The Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UPSRLM) is mandated to implement DAY-NRLM – a national flagship program of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India that envisions addressing multi-dimensional poverty in rural India by organizing the poor and vulnerable women into self-help groups (SHGs). These SHGs are federated into Village Organizations (VOs) at the village level and further into cluster level federations (CLFs).

Encouraged by the results of PCI’s engagement with the Bihar State Rural Livelihoods Mission, the UPSRLM collaborated with PCI to establish a technical support unit in the state. This unit works with an objective to strengthen UPSRLM’s overall systems and processes; strengthen UPSRLM’s community institutions and platforms; and devise evidence-based strategies and interventions, integrate Health and Nutrition (HN) and Take Home Ration (THR) into UPSRLM’s core operational model to achieve sustainable improvement in HN outcomes.

Based on the impact of PCI’s intervention in the Health & Nutrition sector, UPSRLM has asked to extend technical support in the Farm Livelihoods domain. In the Farm Livelihoods domain, PCI would primarily focus on developing a robust ecosystem around sub-sector interventions like Apiculture, Pisciculture and other sub-sectors as per the need. In addition to this PCI also works on strengthening the overall ecosystem of Farm Livelihoods by bringing in innovative solutions, digitization of information, robust capacity building content & assisting mission in coming up with the dedicated MIS system.

The scope and approach specific to employment generation entails co-creation strategies with UPSRLM for system strengthening of UPSRLM in its core business areas, Strengthening UPSRLM’s internal system, structures, institutional mechanisms and processes, and strengthening and mobilizing the community institutions of UPSRLM in its core business areas.
