Experience required:

  • Experience & Expertise: Proven track record in conducting market research. Preference will be given for those with an experience on e-waste, sustainability, or circular economy.
  • Research Methodology: A well-defined and innovative approach to stakeholder mapping, value chain analysis, and behavioural research.

About the position:

To conduct cutting-edge market research aimed at mapping key stakeholders, pinpointing high e-waste generation areas, analysing the e-waste value chain, and delivering strategic recommendations to enhance circular economy practices. The goal is to strengthen value chain connections, promote sustainable e-waste management practices, and drive impactful interventions in Bangalore.

Deliverable:

The consultant will be assigned with delivering a future-focused and data-driven research and analysis that will achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Stakeholder Mapping: Identify, map, and analyse existing stakeholders across the e-waste value chain, with a focus on the informal sector:
  • Key Players: E-waste collectors, aggregators, dismantlers, recyclers, manufacturers, repair businesses, and policymakers.
  • Relationship Insights: Identify dependencies, collaborations, and disconnections across stakeholders that affect circularity.
  • Gap Assessment: Analyse gaps in stakeholder engagement and recommend actionable ways to bridge them.
  1. Geographical Identification: Analyse and map Bangalore’s e-waste generation zones to reveal where the volume is highest and where interventions can have the maximum impact.

Key Areas to Explore:

  • Commercial Hubs: Retail zones, electronics markets (e.g., Brigade Road, MG Road).
  • Tech & Business Clusters: High-tech zones like Whitefield, Electronics City, Koramangala.
  • Affluent Residential Zones: Bellandur, HSR Layout, Marathahalli, where gadget turnover may be high.
  • Industrial Areas: Peenya Industrial Area, Bommasandra for potential industrial e-waste.
  • Informal Recycling Centers: Existing hubs (like Shivajinagar, KR Market) to understand informal e-waste flows.
  1. Value Chain Analysis: Dive into the e-waste value chain to understand how waste moves from generation to disposal, identifying inefficiencies and bottlenecks.

Focus Areas:

  • Traceability and Transparency: Understand the flow of e-waste and assess weak links in collection, aggregation, and recycling.
  • Linking the Informal and Formal Sectors: Explore strategies for better integration of informal sector players into formal recycling systems.
  • Tech-Enabled Innovations: Identify opportunities for leveraging technology (e.g., digital platforms, blockchain-based traceability, IoT) to improve accountability and efficiency.
  1. Behavioural and Market Insights: Investigate e-waste generation and disposal behaviours through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions (FGDs) with key stakeholders:
  • Households: Understand gadget turnover patterns, awareness, and attitudes toward e-waste recycling.
  • Businesses: Assess corporate e-waste practices and motivations for formal vs. informal recycling.
  • Informal Sector Players: Capture insights from collectors and dismantlers on barriers to formal integration.
  1. Policy and Regulatory Landscape Assessment: Review the existing regulatory framework and its impact on e-waste management in Bangalore. Identify gaps and opportunities to align interventions with evolving national and local circular economy goals.

    1. Inception Report: Detailed methodology, research plan, and timelines.
    2. Stakeholder Mapping Report: Comprehensive analysis and visual map.
    3. Geographical Hotspot Report: Data-backed e-waste hotspot identification.
    4. Value Chain Report: Diagnostics of the e-waste flow, challenges, and opportunities.
    5. Behavioural Insights Report: Findings from surveys, FGDs, and interviews.
    6. Policy Landscape Report: Assessment of regulatory gaps and recommendations.
    7. Final Research Report & Presentation: A consolidated report with all findings, recommendations, and a strategic roadmap.

About the Project

E-Rozgar is PCI India’s innovative and inclusive response to the e-waste challenge. It is a women-led, community-driven initiative that envisions transforming the e-waste sector into a space of dignified work, entrepreneurship, and environmental responsibility.

The project focuses on establishing six e-waste collection and refurbishment units in Bangalore, run by women entrepreneurs and supported by trained field teams. These units will act as hubs for safe collection, segregation, data-secure disposal, and upcycling of electronic waste, integrated within formal recycling networks.

Recruitment Process:
1. Applications will be shortlisted based on the specified criteria mentioned in the Job Description.
2. The process could also include presentation of the assignment.
3. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend one or more rounds of panel interview/s.
The complete process usually takes 2 to 3 weeks. Those moving to the final round of interviews will be hearing from the People & Culture team. We prefer in person meetings but in case of location distances, we are happy to meet you virtually.
