About the Project:
Since more than a decade, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) has invested in building capacities of State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLM) and DAY-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) to layer health and nutrition interventions in the Self-Help Group (SHG) platforms, with the aim to improve health outcomes. The proof of concept of this model was tried in 2012, with ‘Parivartan’ project, as a part of the ‘Ananya’ program in Bihar. Effectiveness of the concept was established through the first phase of the JEEViKA Technical Support (JTSP), wherein HN interventions were rolled out among 170,000 SHGs across 101 blocks of the state of Bihar and positively impacted health and nutrition indicators among mothers and children. Evidence generated through JTSP led to adoption and scale-up of the model through the DAY-NRLM and several SRLMs across the country.
