Enabling the Lost Childhood!!

Home is not only about having a roof over one’s head. Home is where one feels nurtured, secure and inspired to chase one’s dreams. But there are children who do not get to experience these joys of life.

Understanding the needs of the young, PCI India has set up a children’s home to provide a ray of hope to lighten up children’s lives and become a launchpad for their infinite dreams. PCI started the Vulnerable Children and Youth (VCY) Program in 2000 to address the needs of the marginalized and disadvantaged children and youth with the belief that if the basic needs are met, a child’s ability to take control over his/her future strengthens. With a steadfast commitment to improving the life opportunities for the most vulnerable children, PCI India began its journey working directly with street children in three sired in Delhi (India) – Nizamuddin Railway Station, Mori Gate near Red Fort (old Delhi) and in New Seemapuri urban slums in 2000. PCI opened a Shelter Home for the poor and marginalized children in a rented place at Wazirabad in North East Delhi that gave shelter to some of the neediest boys who came from these intervention sites. Later in April 2005, PCI moved the Children Home to the rural environment of Nuh (erstwhile Mewat), Haryana – a two-hour drive from Delhi. In September 2012, the Shelter Home got registered as a Child Care Institution under Section 34 (3) of Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2000. Since then, the Shelter Home is also known as ‘Children Home’ and closely monitored by the Haryana State Child Welfare Department under the Ministry of Child and Women Development, Government of India.

Edward Albert had aptly said- “The simple act of caring is heroic”. We, at PCI India, are working tirelessly to make sure that the children in our homes feel protected and go on to learn and thrive. We aim to build an inclusive, safe, and just world for all children.

You, too, can do your bit.
