Social Mobilization for LF and VL Elimination in India

PCI works as a technical assistance partner to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India on the social mobilization front for the elimination of two major NTDs – LF and VL. This is done mainly by activating the ecosystem consisting of the state, district and block officials as well as the para-health environment including ASHA workers and other field level workers. For long term sustainability, PCI focuses on building the capacity of the Vector Borne Disease Control Program to effectively leverage existing channels and platforms for successful implementation of the mass drug administration (MDA) and indoor residual spray (IRS) programs.

PCI is providing social mobilization support to the state governments approximately 155 endemic districts across 14 states on LF and in four VL endemic states. Our work lays focus on demand generation through social mobilization efforts leveraging several existing platforms and channels like State Rural Livelihoods Missions (SRLMs), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), Front-Line Workers (FLWs), schools, Civil Society Organization (CSO) networks, etc.
