CORE Group Partners Project

PCI has been at the forefront of India’s polio eradication efforts through the USAID funded CORE Group Polio Project (CGPP). Under the leadership of CORE Secretariat and in close coordination with the Government of India, the World Health Organization, other international and national NGOs, and local district authorities and communities, we have significantly contributed to improve the acceptance of the polio vaccine through community mobilization in high-risk areas of Uttar Pradesh (UP), India. Our efforts through CGPP have been for more than a decade now. It has been instrumental in eradicating the poliovirus from India. Building upon the grand success of polio eradication in 2014, in the next phase, CGPP is focused on strengthening the routine immunization (RI) and hygiene in 250 high-risk areas of UP covering more than 270,000 households through a group of 550 dedicated Community Mobilization Coordinators (CMCs) and other supervisory staff. Currently, the program is passing through a transitional phase. The CMCs were recently disengaged from the project. With the onset of the COVID19 pandemic in India, the CMCs came forward to provide voluntary services to the community to spread awareness and address stigma and discrimination related to the novel coronavirus. The project is now operational in 22 blocks in five districts of Uttar Pradesh, namely Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Sambhal, and Shamli in Western Uttar Pradesh.
